VERDANT’S HAIR-RAISING SUPPORT FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS DAY

Littlehampton, 24th October 2008 – Cakes, raffles and pink hair all feature in plans by staff at municipal services contractor Verdant to support Breast Cancer Awareness Day next Friday 31st October.

Firstly, they’re fund-raising by holding a staff raffle for which prizes have been donated by Sainsbury’s, Superdrug and Woolworths, amongst others. They include a digital camera, a DVD player, meals at Osca’s fish and chips, free entry tickets to Butlins, and produce from Brown’s butchers in East Preston. Verdant employees have also donated money to buy further prizes.

Amongst the day’s activities masterminded by collections supervisor Jean Smith, with the help of Jan O’Sullivan and Julie Campbell, will be the sale of home-made cakes to early-shift Verdant crews before they go out on the road at 6 am, as well as to staff at Arun District Council.

And operations manager Wayne Goodwin will be having a ‘hair-erasing’ time: he’s been challenged to grow his hair and beard for a month, dye it pink for the day, and then shave it all off! So far, Verdant has raised £200 sponsorship for Wayne’s stunt, and is appealing for more funds.

Laura Greenfield-Parker, Verdant business manager at Arun, said: “Breast cancer is a frighteningly common disease, and most people know someone who has suffered from it - or worse. Every penny that can be raised brings the day closer when this horrible disease will be beaten.

“We’re all keen to raise vital funds for this very worthy cause, and if anyone would like to make a donation to Wayne’s bad hair day or any of our other activities, just phone us on 01903 734520.”
