GREENSTAR WES PRESENTED WITH QUEEN’S AWARD

Redcar, 1st October 2009 - Specialist plastics processor Greenstar WES was today formally presented with its Queen’s Award for Enterprise by Lord Crathorne, The Queen’s Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire.

On his visit to the company, Lord Crathorne was welcomed by managing director and founder James Donaldson who escorted the Lord Lieutenant around the Greenstar WES works on the Wilton International industrial park near Redcar.

He then presented Mr Donaldson with the official Queen’s Award warrant before meeting other Greenstar WES staff.

Greenstar WES won its Queen’s Award in the Innovation category in April this year. The firm specialises in processing recycled plastic into added value material that can be reused and remanufactured into new products. In particular, Greenstar WES has led the world in developing the technology that produces food-grade recycled plastic that is remade into plastic milk bottles and other food containers.

Mr Donaldson commented: “This prestigious award recognises the technology innovation that has enabled us to lead the world in plastics recycling. Importantly, it also recognises the hard work, commitment and passion shown by every single person who works at Greenstar WES. Without them, the business would not be the success it is today.”

He also paid tribute to the plastics packaging manufacturers and food and drink retailers who have shared and supported Greenstar’s vision of plastics recycling.

Last week, Greenstar WES won the Best Use of Packaging Recovery Note Funds in the annual Valpak Awards 2009. It is also one of four shortlisted companies competing for the Recycling Packaging of the Year category of the 2009 National Recycling Awards (NRAs), one of the waste and recycling industry’s major award schemes (www.nationalrecyclingawards.com).

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise exist to champion the UK’s most enterprising, creative and sustainable organisations from all business sectors. Any UK-based business with two or more employees can apply for an Award in three categories – International Trade, Innovation or Sustainable Development.
