VERDANT PROMOTES RECYCLING OFFICER TO WYCOMBE BUSINESS MANAGER

Sevenoaks, Kent, 28th September 2007 – Independent municipal services specialist Verdant Group Plc (www.verdant-group.co.uk) today announced that Karen Sherwood (28), formerly recycling education officer at its Arun District Council waste, recycling and cleansing contract, has been promoted to business manager for its cleansing and grounds maintenance contract with Wycombe District Council.

A BA (Hons) geography graduate from Royal Holloway University of London, and a keen runner and traveller, Sherwood joined Verdant from the Environment Agency as a recycling education officer in early 2005. She helped roll out a new wheeled bin-based waste and recycling scheme for Arun’s 70,000 properties, as well as expand the district’s subscription-based Green Waste Club (now with over 8,500 members).

She then helped manage the planning, rollout and promotion of Verdant’s street and beach cleansing, waste collection and recycling contract with Rother District Council that began in April.

Said Sherwood: “When I joined in 2005, I said Verdant was a go-ahead organisation totally focused on helping local authorities implement and expand efficient recycling. Those words stand true today, and I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to expand my horizons.”

Verdant managing director Simon Miles said Sherwood ‘thoroughly’ deserved her promotion. “Her dedication at Arun was instrumental in helping the district reach a new record 40% recycling rate this summer,” said Miles, “and I’ve every confidence she will help enhance our quality work at Wycombe where she will manage over 50 staff and nearly 40 vehicles. This is another great example of Verdant growing its own talent.”

Andy Fenwick, who was business manager at Wycombe, has transferred to a similar role at Verdant’s street cleansing contract for Warwick District Council.
